Introduction to the Museum

1. The Royal Navy Submarine Museum is located in Gosport, on the former site of HMS Dolphin, which was the home of the Submarine Service for 100 years. 

2. Here you can discover the remarkable story of the Navy’s submarines, from their first voyage in 1904 to their role in the Second World War. 

3. There is also a complimentary waterbus service available to take you across Portsmouth Harbour to the Gosport side of the dockyard. 

4. The museum includes an exciting interactive submarine experience, where visitors can explore what it was like to be a submariner during the Second World War. 

5. You can also view static displays of submarines and other maritime vessels, as well as exhibitions and events throughout the year. 

6. The museum is open Wednesday to Sunday from 10am until 4:30pm, with extended hours during summer months (last entry time 4:30pm).

History of the Navy Submarines

1. The Royal Navy Submarine Service dates back to 1904, when it was established at HMS Dolphin in Gosport. 

2. The museum houses Britain's only remaining Second World War submarine, HMS Alliance, and features interactive galleries that allow visitors to explore the life of a submariner first-hand.
